WNMU could not battle on the boards Saturday night at New Mexico Highlands. Outrebounded by 19 (47-28), the Mustangs gave up 23 second chance points. WNMU fell, 115-99, to drop to 7-13 on the season and 7-6 in conference action.
Highlands improves to 13-4 overall and 9-4 in the RMAC.
TJ Riley (Tyler, TX, Chapel Hill High School, Lamar University) had 28 points to lead the Mustangs.
Chad Carter (Tucson, AZ, Ironwood Ridge High School) came close to a double-double with 23 points and nine rebounds. The two combined for 25 of the team's 42 free throw attempts. WNMU shot .738 from the free throw line (31-42). Between the two teams, 84 free throws were shot.
WNMU was more successful from the floor overall (.545-.500), but Highlands took 23 more attempts than the Mustangs.
Highlands had the point advantage much of the game, but WNMU held the Cowboy lead to single digits the entire first half. The lead went to double figures one minute into the second half. WNMU was never able to shave away at the deficit.
Highlands' Thomas Manzano led all scorers with 34 points. He also chipped in with 10 rebounds.
