Murdock's Big Numbers Give Mustangs Win

Senior Natali Murdock
The Western New Mexico University volleyball team posted their fourth conference win of the season Saturday night. The Mustangs defeated Adams State, 3-1 (25-23, 20-25, 25-17, 25-16), and are now a perfect 2-0 at home this season.

WNMU is now 6-4 overall (4-1 RMAC). Adams State drops to 4-9 overall and 1-4 in conference play.

Senior Natali Murdock (Phoenix, AZ, Pinnacle High School) recorded a match-high 20 kills while committing only six errors on 46 attempts. Sophomore Heather Rux (Cottonwood, AZ, Mingus Union High School) was hot in the middle. She hit a gigantic .600, notching six kills on 10 attempts.

Freshman Angelina Pulu (Long Beach, CA, Robert A. Millikan High School) had another double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs. Setter Alyssa Meihack (Fallon, NV, Churchill County High School)dished out 41 assists and had two big set-changing service aces in the third set.

After a close first set but still a WNMU win, WNMU was able to stop five Adam State's hits with blocks in the second set but passing then became an issue. The bad passing led to bad sets which, in turn, resulted to bad hitting. WNMU hit only .050 in the second set to walk into the break tied 1-1.

WNMU bounced back in set three. Meihack helped the team string together a 7-1 run in the middle of the set after back-to-back aces. Jordan Johnston (Boise, ID, Centennial High School) capped off the victory with a kill out of the middle.

The Mustangs were eager to end the match in four sets. Adams State could not stop the WNMU hitters. WNMU posted 18 kills and only two errors. Murdock had seven of those kills in the set with Meihack handing out 15 of the assists.

Adam State's Dominique Davis finished with 18 kills and 10 digs while libero AJ Palmer had a match-high 18 digs.
