The Metro State College Roadrunners had little trouble with the Mustangs in conference action Saturday night, taking the victory in three quick sets (25-19, 25-18, 25-17).
For the first time this season, no Mustang posted more than nine kills. The team hit a disappointing .080 in the match, their lowest of the season.
Metro State figured out WNMU's offense quickly. WNMU's outside hitters were stopped dead in their tracks.
Natali Murdock (Phoenix, AZ, Pinnacle High School) had nine kills, but she also committed seven errors.
Angelina Pulu (Long Beach, CA, Robert A. Millikan High School) hit negative after her six kill, 11 error performance.
Sophomore
Ziona Verhulsdonk (Kailua, HI, Hawaii Preparatory Academy) picked up the slack and finally found her rhythm this season on the right side. She had six kills and no errors on 16 attempts.
The Mustang hitters were not the only players to produce their weakest numbers of the season. Setter
Alyssa Meihack (Fallon, NV, Churchill County High School) only had 20 assists in the three sets. Defensively, Pulu and
Kassie Kagawa (Hilo, HI, Waiakea High School) had 12 and 10 digs respectively.
Metro State hit .223 on the night. They also served tough, acing the Mustangs ten separate times.
WNMU has their home opener on Tuesday when face rival New Mexico Highlands University at 7:00 p.m.
