The Mustangs could not recover from a sloppy final two minutes of the first half Saturday night at New Mexico Highlands University. WNMU was down by only four, 46-42, before the Cowboys went on an 11-0 run to close out the half with a 15-point lead. The Mustangs lost by that same margin in the end, 103-88.
In a bit of a road slump, WNMU is now 7-13 overall and 6-7 in conference play. The Cowboys improve to 14-7 this season and 8-5 in the RMAC.
Highlands only had two considerable advantages in the stats. With 16 total players checking into the game for Highlands, the Cowboys produced 51 points off the bench. WNMU had 21. Highlands also had the edge in assists, dishing out 18 compared to WNMU's five.
Jeron McIntosh (Albuquerque, NM, La Cueva High School) handled the starting role with ease. He recorded 19 points to lead the team. Thirteen of those came from the charity stripe. He also snagged seven rebounds.
TJ Riley (Tyler, TX, Chapel Hill High School, Lamar University) and
Justin Williams (Phoenix, AZ, Paradise Valley High School, Phoenix College) each chipped in with 18 points. Riley went 8 for 14 from the floor. Coming off the bench for the Mustangs was
Lucio Luttrell (Las Cruces, NM, Las Cruces High School) and
Daryl Littleton (Tucson, AZ, Palo Verde High School). Luttrell accumulated 28 minutes and 13 points while Littleton had two points in his 16 minutes. Both were stellar on the boards with eight each.
