It is hard to beat a team that nails 10 of their 14 three-pointers compared to just one your 11 shots. That is just what Adams State did. The Grizzlies were 71.4 percent from behind the arc. The Mustangs (7-17 overall; 7-11 RMAC) shot an abysmal 9.1 percent and fell, 96-73.
Adams State posts their 20th win for the first time since 1985.
Shatwa Morris (Las Cruces, NM, Mayfield High School) led WNMU with 20 points (6-11 FG, 8-11 FT), four assists, and seven steals. Playing in her second to last game,
Audra Major (Socorro, NM, Socorro High School, Midland Community College) was close behind Morris in points with 18. She was 9 for 18 from the floor.
Leading all scorers was Adam State's Vera Jo Bustos with 26 points. Four other Grizzlies posted double digits.
The Mustangs were down by only three, 16-13, with 13:25 left in the first half, but then the purple and gold's scoring halted. The Grizzlies went on a 16-1 run over the next six minutes. Finally, Morris ended the WNMU field goal drought with a layup at the 7:35 mark. By the time intermission came around, the Mustangs faced a 23-point deficit.
WNMU could not cut into that deficit in the second half despite heading to the free throw line 21 times. Both teams scored 43 points in the final 20 minutes.
