Like many of the home games this season, the women's basketball team wrestled with another close one. This time it was against the CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves. The Mustangs had a 71-70 lead and the ball under the ThunderWolves basket with 24 seconds remaining. A careless inbounds pass allowed Pueblo's Rachel Espinoza hit a jumper from the block and draw the foul. She sank the free throw to post the win, 73-71.
The Mustangs held a three-point advantage at halftime, 36-33, after shooting a whopping 53.8 percent from the field. The halftime lead didn't last long and soon the ThunderWolves built a ten-point cushion with 7:43 remaining in the game.
Senior
Ashley Vigil (Albuquerque, NM, Sandia High School) did not want her senior day spoiled so she pumped up the team and helped lift the team to a 16-3 run over the next six minutes to jump ahead again by three, 71-68.
With 37 seconds left in the game and the game still at 71-68, Pueblo's Katrina Selsor was put on the line. She missed her bonus opportunity but came up with a big rebound to set Kaitlyn Jewell up for a short-range jumper. This cut the Mustang lead to just one. It was followed by the poor Mustangs pass and a game winning jumper.
Seniors
Audra Major (Socorro, NM, Socorro High School, Midland Community College) and Vigil combined for 40 of the team's point. Ten of Major's points came from the charity stripe. Fellow senior
Dana Alexander (Fort Worth, TX, Arlington Heights High School, Kilgore College; East Texas Baptist University) posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
