A big push at the beginning of the second half propelled the Mustangs to a 70-55 victory over Regis University Friday night. With Regis up by three at half, 28-25, WNMU's
Lucio Luttrell (Las Cruces, NM, Las Cruces High School) kick-started a 16 to 4 run with his pair of free throws at the 17:21 mark of the second stanza.
TJ Riley (Tyler, TX, Chapel Hill High School, Lamar University) capped of the streak nearly five minutes later with a dunk, his second of the night. The Rangers never recovered.
This was WNMU's first win of the season (1-4) and first RMAC competition. The Rangers fell to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
Riley finished the night with 21 points to lead all scorers. Eleven of those came from the charity stripe where he was perfect. Overall, the Mustangs shot .885 from the line – a number head coach

Andy Sohlich (Battle Creek, MI, St. Phillip Catholic Central High School, Western Texas Community College; Eldon Academy Prep) and
Chad Carter (Tucson, AZ, Ironwood Ridge High School) finished with 11 points each. Luttrell followed with nine.
WNMU committed only 13 turnovers while the Rangers notched 19 errors. WNMU also beat the visitors on the board (33-29), in blocks (6-1), and in steals (12-6). Regis did, however, slightly edge in field goal percentage with .440. The Mustangs finished with .431.
