The long trip south didn't bother the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs Mountain Lions Saturday as they cruised past Western New Mexico, 63-48, on Drag's Court. The visitors led from the 10-minute mark in the first half and were never seriously challenged by WNMU, who didn't seem to have the spunk they displayed in Friday's loss to CSU-Pueblo. The loss keeps WNMU winless on the season in 10 tries while Springs improves to 3-7 (2-4 RMAC).
Cold shooting has been a stumbling block this season for the 'Stangs, and Saturday's game was no different. WNMU connected on 20 of 62 shots from the floor for a chilly 32 percent. They were just 2 of 17 from beyond the arc. UCCS shot a respectable 43 percent from the floor, going 25 of 58.
The Mountain Lions owned a 44-38 advantage on the boards and had 16 turnovers to WNMU's 18.
Morgan Wohltman (Queen Creek, AZ, Highland High School) was the lone player in double figures, knocking down 12 points in the loss.
Springs was led by Lauren Wolfinger's 18-point effort, but they also got 11 from Jeri Pikul.
The Mustangs get the next two weeks off before heading to Denver on January 2 for a meeting with Colorado Christian.
