Western New Mexico's women's basketball team is improving but still haven't tasted victory this season as they fell, 72-60, to CSU-Pueblo Friday night in Silver City. Pueblo (6-3 3-2 RMAC) dominated the boards in the second half, depriving the Mustangs their first trip to win column after the Mustangs led at intermission, 36-35. WNMU fell to 0-9 (0-5 RMAC).
Outside of the rebounding advantage, the ThunderWolves held in the game as the statistics were pretty much even. The only other noticeable advantage the visitors held was holding WNMU to a single free throw in only five attempts for the game. Pueblo visited the charity stripe 13 times, connecting on 10.
WNMU's
Morgan Wohltman (Queen Creek, AZ, Highland High School) led all scorers with 23 points. No other Mustang player broke double digits.
CSUP's Erica Hicks knocked home 19 points in the winning effort, and the T-Wolves got a double-double from Taylor Fox, who pulled 11 rebounds and scored 13 points.
The Mustangs' next chance at the winner's circle comes Saturday night as UC-Colorado Springs comes to town.
