The Mustangs (0-6, 0-3 RMAC) are still in search of their first win. They were defeated by the Mesa State Mavericks (5-2, 2-1 RMAC), 76-59, Friday night in Grand Junction, Colorado.
The Mavericks led by as many as 21 points in the first half, 35-14, when the Mustangs went on a 21-4 run in the last 6:27 of the half to pull to within four points, 39-35, at intermission.
MSC opened the second half with a 13-6 run to take a 52-41 lead. The home team held that double digit lead the remainder of contest. MSC outscored WNMU, 37-24, in the second half.
Western New Mexico shot .356 (21-59) from the floor and hit 7 of 22 from beyond the arc. Six of those came from
Morgan Wohltman (Queen Creek, AZ, Highland High School, Idaho State University) who returned to the Mustang line up. Wohltman finished with 20 points.
Shatwa Morris (Las Cruces, NM, Mayfield High School) led all scorers with 21 points. She went 8 for 12 from the floor.
The two teams combined for 48 turnovers (MSC-26, WNMU-22) resulting in 23 points for the visiting Mustangs and 22 for the Mavericks. The Mavericks outrebounded the Mustangs, 51-28.
MSC had four player register double digits. They were led by Katrina Selsor's 18 points. Sharaya Selsor and Kelsey Sigl each finished with 15 points while Katie Brady added 10.
