In the battle of Westerns Saturday night, the home team, Western State College (5-3, 3-1 RMAC) defeated Western New Mexico (0-7, 0-4 RMAC), 81-43.
Poor shooting plagued the Mustangs from the starting gate. WNMU shot only .107 from the floor (3-28) in the first half, making only three baskets and two free throws. They were 0 for 14 from downtown. WSC walked into the locker room with a commanding 32-8 lead at intermission.
It looked like a completely different Mustang shooting team in the second half however. WNMU hit .556 of their rainbows and limited the attempts from behind the arc to only four. In the end, WNMU put 35 points on the board in the final stanza. WSC didn't lighten up though. They lit up the scoreboard with 49 and shot .531 from the floor (17-32) and was perfect from long range (5-5).
