Morris Puts Up 14 Points In Hometown

Junior Shatwa Morris
The women's basketball team finally hit the court for a regular season match-up at New Mexico State Monday night after over a month of pounded the hardwood in practice. Head coach Greg Adams saw some good things but hoped for a closer outcome. The Aggies handled the Mustangs, 90-57.

Playing in her hometown, Shatwa Morris (Las Cruces, NM, Mayfield High School) led WNMU with 14 points, two steals, and three assists. She also snagged five rounds in her 32 minutes of play. PJ Bryant (Cliff, NM, Cliff High School, Eastern New Mexico University) and KiKim Clark (Santee, CA, West Hills High School) each added 10 points each.

New Mexico State's Kaitlyn Soto led all scorers with 15 points in just 18 minutes.

Despite being outsized in the paint, WNMU had one more offensive rebound than the Aggies and were short only one board overall. New Mexico State, however, was much more productive off the bench. The reserves scored over half of the team's points (53 points) compared to the Mustangs' 12.

WNMU found themselves down by ten just four minutes into the game but cut the lead to just four midway through the first half. The Aggies quickly hit the floor running to force a 14-point lead at intermission. The double figure New Mexico State lead held the remainder of the game.
