Head coach
Mark Coleman took a slightly different approach in tonight's game against New Mexico State than his first two Division I opponents (NAU, WSU exhibition games) since it was a regular season matchup. There was more scouting and more analysis, but unfortunately he came up with the same result as the exhibition games. The mighty Aggies defeated WNMU, 95-62.
Chad Carter (Tucson, AZ, Ironwood Ridge High School) led the Mustangs with 14 points after going 6 of 12 from the floor.
TJ Riley (Tyler, TX, Chapel Hill High School, Lamar University) followed with 11 points.
Leading all scorers was New Mexico State's Troy Gillenwater with 21 points. Six Aggies put up double figures.
The Mustangs had only one more turnover than the Aggies (14-13), but the Crimson knew how to capitalize. They outscored WNMU in points off turnovers 29-10. WNMU also took a beating in the paint with a rebounding deficit of 53-30 and a scoring in the paint disadvantage of 38-14.
WNMU's closest lead of the night happened very early on when
Jeron McIntosh (Albuquerque, NM, La Cueva High School) put in a layup to come within one, 5-4. New Mexico State then went on a 12-0 run to stretch the lead to 13 with 13:48 left to play in the first half. The home team never looked back.
