WNMU saw their time in Kearney, Nebraska and the RMAC Tournament cut short. No. 12 Metro State topped Western New Mexico, 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 21-25, 25-20).
Metro State demonstrated their dominance in the region and conference standings. They forced eight WNMU reception errors and produced only six service errors in the four sets.
WNMU faced a big challenge in the first set as they hit only .114 and saw the Roadrunners rattle off five straight to build a 22-13 lead, the biggest run of the set.
The second set was much closer throughout as the Mustangs improved their hitting (.212), but another Metro State rally put the set out of reach. Leading 15-14 in the second, the Roadrunners scored three straight and five of six points to take control of the set with a 20-15 lead to take a 2-0 lead at intermission.
WNMU led 17-8 in the third set despite hitting their lowest hitting percentage of the day (.093), but Metro State saw the hitting woes also (.106). Metro State did climb back to within three. That was as close as the score would get though.
The Mustangs took a 5-2 lead in the fourth, but Metro State served six in a row to take an 8-5 lead. The Roadrunners held the lead the rest of the match.
Natali Murdock (Phoenix, AZ, Pinnacle High School) finished her career with 15 kills and 12 digs.
Alyssa Meihack (Fallon, NV, Churchill County High School) and
Marilee Frost (Long Beach, CA, Robert A. Millikan High School) both had 17 digs to lead the team while
Angelina Pulu (Long Beach, CA, Robert A. Millikan High School) had 12 kills and 14 digs.
