The Mustangs skunked their opponents over the weekend. On Saturday, they blanked Western State in Silver City, 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-17).
WNMU is now 8-6 overall and 6-3 in the RMAC. Western State falls to 8-8 overall and 3-6 in conference play.
Outside hitters
Angelina Pulu (Long Beach, CA, Robert A. Millikan High School) and
Natali Murdock (Phoenix, AZ, Pinnacle High School) each had 15 kills, but
Ziona Verhulsdonk (Kailua, HI, Hawaii Preparatory Academy) was the silent playmaker. She had nine kills off of 17 attempts and committed no errors. Overall, the team hit .288 on the night with an impressive .405 hitting percentage in the third set.
Setter
Alyssa Meihack (Fallon, NV, Churchill County High School) notched 39 assists and 12 digs to post her seventh double-double. Pulu finished with a match-high 20 defensive stops.
Western State was held to just .157 hitting with only one player, Kallee Cool, posting double digit kills. No Mountaineer had more than eight digs in the contest.
Both teams struggled serving. Between the two teams there were 11 service errors.
