Nineteen points from junior
Lonnie Sanchez (Scottsdale, AZ, St. Mary's High School, Central Arizona College) was not enough for the WNMU Mustangs to get past the Mesa State Mavericks Thursday night. The Mustangs recorded their 12th loss of the season with the 81-68 loss. WNMU is now 4-6 in conference play.
The Mavericks improve to 5-11 overall and 4-7 in conference play.
WNMU was down by only eight at halftime, 41-33, after going 9 for 20 from the floor, but the Mustangs had trouble finding the bottom of the net in the second half. They went 11 for 35 from the floor in the final 20 minutes while hitting only 2 of 12 three-point shots.
Mesa State was consistent from the floor, hitting 55.1 percent from the floor in the game.
Sanchez led all scorers with her 19 points. She nailed five of the team's nine three-points.
Dana Alexander (Fort Worth, TX, Arlington Heights High School, Kilgore College; East Texas Baptist University) posted 15 points.
Krystal Davis (Fort Worth, TX, North Crowley High School, South Plains Junior College) tallied her second double-double of the season with her 11 rebounds and 13 points.
Mesa State's Courtney McCaig recorded 16 points. Hannah Breidel netted 14 points.
