For the second game in a row, Western New Mexico's women's basketball team used a strong second half surge to send their opponents home disappointed. The Mustangs knocked off visiting Chadron State, 78-74, Saturday in RMAC basketball action. WNMU trailed 42-34 at the intermission, but shot nearly 50 percent from the field and went 13 for 18 from the charity stripe in the second stanza to seal the deal. The Mustangs improved their record to 4-9 (4-3 RMAC). Chadron fell to 2-12 (2-5 RMAC).
The paint was friendly territory Saturday as the Mustangs accounted for 34 of their 78 points from close territory. They dominated the Eagles on the boards as well, holding a 44-37 advantage on the glass.
Both teams had decent nights shooting with Chadron hitting .450 and the Mustangs connecting on 42 percent of their shots. WNMU forced 14 turnovers while just giving up 10 of their own.

Audra Major (Socorro, NM, Socorro High School, Midland Community College) returned to form with a strong double-double, scoring 29 points and pulling 14 rebounds.
Ashley Vigil (Albuquerque, NM, Sandia High School) also had her season high, adding 20 points to the Mustang tally.
Lonnie Sanchez (Scottsdale, AZ, St. Mary's High School, Central Arizona College) chipped in 10.
