Mustangs Go 2-0 This Weekend

Junior Natali Murdock tallied 11 kills and only two errors.
The Mustangs came out ready to win this weekend. Last night, WNMU swept CSU-Pueblo in three sets. They did the same thing tonight against Adams State College (25-21, 25-21, 20-25). The Mustangs improve to 5-7 overall and 2-1 in the RMAC.

In the first set, freshman Ziona Verhulsdonk (Kailua, HI, Hawaii Preparatory Academy) came out swinging, killing eight of her 12 attacking attempts, but the Grizzlies were able to silence her in set two. She was limited to just one kill as Adams chipped away at a 9-4 WNMU lead. Adams went on a 9-2 run, and WNMU saw themselves down 13-11. A poor hitting percentage by the Grizzlies coupled with strong hitting by the Mustangs allowed WNMU to get back into the set and go up two sets to zero.

Verhulsdonk and junior Natali Murdock (Phoenix, AZ, Pinnacle High School) made sure that the match finished in three sets. They combined for half of the teams 12 kills in set three.

Verhulsdonk finished the night with 12 kills and a .417 hitting percentage. Murdock followed close behind with 11 kills and a .409 hitting percentage.

Defensively, Marilee Frost (Long Beach, CA, Robert A. Millikan High School) led all players in digs with 11.
