Western New Mexico's Mustangs took a real nail-biter from intra-state rival New Mexico Highlands Thursday night on Drag's Court. The visiting Cowgirls took a brief lead with 32 seconds left before junior Audra Major (Socorro, NM/Socorro High School)(Socorro, NM) answered with an inside jumper 12 seconds later to give the Mustangs their final margin of victory, 60-58. The win moved WNMU to 8-12 overall and 6-6 in the RMAC.

It was a chilly night from the floor for the host Mustangs as they managed just shy of 30 percent in the shooting department. Still the 'Stangs did a good job from the charity stripe, cashing in 19-of-27 free throws for 70 percent and out-rebounded the Cowgirls 48-43.

Major recorded an impressive double-double with 17 points and 16 rebounds, including a 5-of-6 night on the free throw line. Shatwa Morris (Las Cruces, NM/Mayfield High School) (Las Cruces, NM) threw down 13 points and ten boards for a double-double of her own, and Ashley Vigil (Albuquerque, NM/Sandia High School) (Albuquerque, NM) added 12 points for WNMU.

Oliana Seanoa led Highlands with 13 points.

The Mustangs return to action Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. at home against CSU-Pueblo.
