The women's basketball team shot well (48.1 percent), but Fort Lewis' 21 offensive rebounds and 22 steals kept the Skyhawks' successful season going strong. The Skyhawks improve to 25-2 overall and 18-1 in RMAC play after an 83-62 victory over the Mustangs. The Mustangs fall to 8-18 overall and 6-12 in conference.
The Skyhawks led the entire game. With 11:31 left in the first half, WNMU's
Krystal Davis (Fort Worth, TX, North Crowley High School, South Plains Junior College) drained a three to cut the lead to seven (20-13), but a 14-0 Fort Lewis run over the next four minutes stretched the lead to 21. The Mustangs ended the first half down, 47-22.
The lead grew to 32 with 12:14 left to play before the Mustangs could put together a run of their own.
Audra Major (Socorro, NM, Socorro High School, Midland Community College) capped off a 17-2 run with a jumper at the 6:57 mark. That was the closest the purple and gold would get however.
Sarah Wenze (Albuquerque, NM, Sandia High School) finished with 16 points after shooting 70 percent from the floor. Major followed with 14 points. She shot 83 percent from the floor.
Ashley Vigil (Albuquerque, NM, Sandia High School) dished out nine assists.
Six Skyhawks posted double figures in the win. Audrey George and Alison Rosel both recorded 16 points to lead the Durango, Colorado team.
