Once again it came down to a last second shot to decide the winner. With five seconds remaining, New Mexico Highlands University's Roman Andrade threw up a three and sank it to give the Cowboys their only lead of the game and the win over the WNMU Mustangs Saturday night, 78-77.
WNMU took advantage of 13 Cowboy first half turnovers and ran the ball down the court for 16 points. The Mustangs saw an 11-point lead two separate times in the first 20 minutes and had the 41-32 advantage at halftime .
WNMU stretched their lead to 14 points with 15 minutes left to play, but a 9-3 Cowboy run ending at the 10:12 mark kept the game close the remainder of the game.
NMHU free throws down the stretch (2:01) tied the game for the first time. WNMU's
Devin Stewart (Tucson, AZ, Santa Rita High School, Saddleback Junior College) broke the tie with a lay-up and two free throws, but NMHU did the same exact thing to tie the game again with 28 seconds left.
Seventeen seconds later, the Mustangs went up by two with an
Andy Sohlich (Battle Creek, MI, St. Phillip Catholic Central High School, Western Texas Community College, Eldon Academy Prep) lay-up. NMHU immediately called a timeout to draw up the winning play.

DJ Nicholas (Glendale, AZ, Glendale High School) followed with 19 points and led the Mustangs in the rebounding category with nine rebounds.
