Close But No Cigar

The Mustangs were hoping to avenge an earlier loss to CSU-Pueblo Thursday night. Two weeks ago, the Thunderwolves sank a game-winning three at the end of regulation to secure a 58-56 win in Silver City. Just like their first meeting, it came down to the wire tonight in Pueblo, Colorado. With 10 seconds remaining and trailing by two, the Mustangs had a chance to shock the Thunderwolves the way they had been shocked earlier on their home court. But it was not to be, as Justin Williams' (Phoenix, AZ, Paradise Valley High School, Phoenix College) three-point attempt fell short. CSU-Pueblo took the win, 78-76.

The Mustangs only saw the lead three separate times, but WNMU held CSU-Pueblo to no lead larger than five points throughout the second half.

DJ Nicholas (Glendale, AZ, Glendale High School) posted 19 points and five rebounds. Devin Stewart (Tucson, AZ, Santa Rita High School, Saddleback Junior College) and Williams each recorded 14. The two guards also combined for eight of the team's 14 assists.

Pueblo's Jake Trahern led all scorers and rebounders with 27 points and 13 rebounds. Trahern hit an amazing 9-of-10 from the floor.

The Mustangs continue to struggle from the free throw line as they hit only seven of their 14 attempts tonight. Overall, however, WNMU shot an impressive 53.5 percent from the floor.
