It is official. The Mustang volleyball team will be the eighth seed at the RMAC Championship held in Kearney, Nebraska next weekend. They will take on the host, the University of Nebraska – Kearney Lopers, who is ranked No. 4 in the country and undefeated in the conference. On Saturday night, WNMU could not get any help from New Mexico Highlands, who needed to defeat Adams State, to improve the Mustangs' seeding. WNMU did, however, smash CSU – Pueblo, 3-0 (25-16, 26-24, 25-20).
WNMU hit only .160 on the night but received big numbers from freshman Ziona Verhulsdonk (Kailua, HI/Hawaii Preparatory Academy) who notched 11 kills on only 18 attempts. Fellow freshman and Hawaiian Jovan Falemalu (Laie, HI/Kahuku High School) also had a strong night, recording nine kills and 16 digs. Falemalu led the team in the defensive category. She was followed by Marilee Frost (Long Beach, CA/Robert A. Millikan High School) who had 14 stops.
Ellen East (Pomerene, AZ/Benson High School) averaged 11 assists per set in the victory after handing out 33 total assists.
