Mustangs Give Away First Half Lead

Senior Ashley Vigil
The WNMU women's basketball team had a three-point lead, 40-37, at half versus Bemidji State Saturday afternoon at the Grand Canyon University Crowne Plaza Thanksgiving Classic, but the Beavers shot 44.8 percent in the second half to run away with the 79-65 victory. The Mustangs have now lost their first five games of the 2009-2010 season

Senior Ashley Vigil (Albuquerque, NM, Sandia High School) led all scorers with 21 points after shooting nearly perfect from the floor. Vigil nailed all five three-point attempts and missed only one regular field goal before fouling out of the game with 12 seconds left in the second half.

Krystal Davis (Fort Worth, TX, North Crowley High School, South Plains Junior College) and Audra Major (Socorro, NM, Socorro High School, Midland Community College) both contributed nine points and combined for 10 rebounds. Individually, Dana Alexander (Fort Worth, TX, Arlington Heights High School, Kilgore College; East Texas Baptist University) led the team on the boards with 10 rebounds.

WNMU shot 44.4 percent from the floor in the first half and then faltered a bit in the second when they hit just 9 of 28 attempts. Overall, however, the Mustangs were strong from the three-point line, netting 11 of their 21 attempts.

For the Beavers, Emily Kaus posted the only double-double of the afternoon when she notched 10 points and 13 rebounds.
