Even though all five of the WNMU starters produced double figures Friday night in Hilo, Hawaii, the Mustangs still fell short to Hawaii-Hilo, 95-81. The Mustangs have one more game in paradise. They take on the Hawaii Pacific Sea Warriors just outside of Honolulu on Sunday afternoon.
WNMU had their only lead of the game after the first basket by
Chuck Kempf (Chicago, IL, Lakes High School, Trinidad Junior College) just after tipoff. Kempf finished the night with his first double-double wearing a purple and gold jersey. He had 14 points and 10 rebounds.
The Vulcan shots kept falling to the dismay of the Mustangs. They hit nearly 60 percent from the floor in the first half.
WNMU then saw some foul trouble.
TJ Riley (Tyler, TX, Chapel Hill High School, Lamar University) had three fouls in the first half. With 21 Mustang fouls called in the final 20 minutes, the remainder of the starters quickly caught up to Riley, having either four or five fouls each by the end of the game.
Riley led the Mustang scoring attack in the end with 24 points. Nineteen of those points came in the second half.
Justin Williams (Phoenix, AZ, Paradise Valley High School, Phoenix College) had his best night so far this season. He recorded 16 points and seven assists. He went 6 for 8 from the floor.
Bryan Ngo led the Vulcans with 21 points aided by 4 for 7 shooting from three-point range.
