The women's basketball team struggled to take care of the ball and get points on the board Saturday afternoon versus Tarleton State at the 2009 DFW Marriott Champions Circle Pioneer Premiere in Denton, Texas. The Mustangs committed 25 turnovers to the Texanns nine and registered only 20 field goals. Tarleton ousted WNMU, 93-41.
Seniors
Krystal Davis (Fort Worth, TX, North Crowley High School, South Plains Junior College) and
Ashley Vigil (Albuquerque, NM, Sandia High School) finished the night with 12 points. Davis also led the team in rebounds with seven.
WNMU was slow to score in the first half. The Mustangs only had six points on the board in the first 13 minutes of play. Tarleton, on the other hand, had no problems knocking the ball into the net as they had 34 points. The Mustangs entered intermission wondering how they could overcome a 24-point deficit, 48-24.
The Texanns lead ballooned to as many as 45 in the second half. Head coach Greg Adams played every player on his roster to find the right combination to shave away at the lead but was unsuccessful.
Davis earned a place on the All-Tournament team for her two-game effort. She posted 10 points in the loss to Texas Woman's University last night.
