Versus the Grand Canyon University Antelopes, the Mustangs struggled on the boards during the first half on Monday night. They were outrebounded, 28-12. This helped the Antelopes build a 41-25 lead at half. WNMU then hit a dry spell and could never recover in the second. The purple and gold dropped their first game of the season, 72-43.

Audra Major (Socorro, NM, Socorro High School, Midland Community College) posted her first double-double of the season with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Ashley Vigil (Albuquerque, NM, Sandia High School) finished the night with eight points.
Leading all scorers was GCU's Samantha Murphy. She tallied23 points after hitting 7-of-14 from the floor.
The Mustangs were down early as the Antelopes went on a 15-2 run to open the game. WNMU erased the double figure GCU lead once with just 3:18 left in the first half.
Sarah Wenze (Albuquerque, NM, Sandia High School) drove the lane for a layup to make the score 34-25. That was the last basket the Mustangs would see for quite some time. WNMU remained quiet the remainder of the half while GCU recorded a 6-0 run.
The Mustangs quiet streak continued into the second half. WNMU scored only three points in the first 11 minutes. With 4:40 left in the game, the Antelope lead ballooned to 37, 70-33. Major helped string together a 10-2 run at the close of the game to cut the deficit to 29.
