Mustangs Struggle On The Road

The WNMU Mustangs won the first set against the Regis University Rangers in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Saturday night but then dropped the next three. Regis remains with only one conference loss this season; whereas, the Mustangs are now 8-9 overall and 6-3 in conference play.

WNMU tied Regis at 6-6 in the first set before going on a 7-2 run to take a 13-8 lead. The Rangers got as close as 16-14 but the Mustangs responded and was able to take the first set, 25-20.

The Rangers put together a bunch of runs in the next three sets to win the match. In the second set, Regis took the second set 25-16 after finishing the set with a 15-9 run.

In the third set, with the score 13-11 after back-to-back kills by Western New Mexico's Jordan Johnston (Boise, ID, Centennial High School), the Rangers scored the next four points for Regis to close out the set with a 12-4 run. Johnson finished with a team-high eight kills.

Regis opened up a 10-3 lead early in the fourth set and never looked back in defeating the Mustangs, 25-9.

WNMU's Marilee Frost (Long Beach, CA, Robert A. Millikan High School) led all players with 15 digs on the night.
