WNMU Breezes Past Highlands

The Mustang volleyball team had no problems with New Mexico Highlands Tuesday night. WNMU defeated the Cowgirls, 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-19). In both volleyball and football, WNMU has dominated Highlands. The men's and women's basketball teams are next. The two teams first meeting will be in February.

On senior night, the Mustangs' lone senior Ellen East (Pomerene, AZ, Benson High School, Yavapai Community College) had another stellar night, notching 31 assists, two service aces, nine digs, and three block assists.

The majority of East's sets went to Natali Murdock (Phoenix, AZ, Pinnacle High School) and Heather Rux (Cottonwood, AZ, Mingus Union High School). They combined for 29 of the team's 36 kills and together only committed four errors.

Marilee Frost (Long Beach, CA, Robert A. Millikan High School) was the game's defensive leader with 14 digs. Like East, Frost also posted two service aces.

For the Cowgirls, Vanessa Leal led the offensive attack with seven kills. Linda Stevens dished out 19 assists. Kelsey Groff and Katie Spence both posted double digits on defense. Groff had 10 digs, and Spence recorded 12.
