Mustangs Go 0-2 On Weekend

Junior Natali Murdock
The Mustangs struggled to put points on the board versus the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs Saturday evening. WNMU dropped three straight sets, 25-15, 25-14, 25-19.

In the first set, there were five lead changes by the time the score was tied at 12, but some rotation confusion by the Mustangs shifted the pendulum to the Mountain Lions. UCCS rattled off five consecutive points that led to the first set victory.

Set two was all Mountain Lions as they hit a superb .382 in the well-rounded attack. The Mustangs never led.

Coming out of the break, the Mustangs seemed more in sync as Jovan Falemalu (Laie, HI, Kahuku High School) and Jordan Johnston (Boise, ID, Centennial High School) combined for seven of the team's 11 kills. It still wasn't enough. The Mustangs had difficulty holding their serves. UCCS found no problem as most of their servers served as least twice.

Natali Murdock (Phoenix, AZ, Pinnacle High School) led all attackers with 11 kills. Falemalu followed with eight. Both only committed three errors apiece, but the Mustangs struggled as a team in the hitting percentage category. The Mustangs finished at .098.

Ellen East (Pomerene, AZ, Benson High School, Yavapai Community College) handled the setting duties for the Mustangs. She dished out 27 assists. Marilee Frost (Long Beach, CA, Robert A. Millikan High School) was the captain of the defense with eight digs.
