Krystal Davis (Fort Worth, TX/North Crowley High School) (Fort Worth, TX) found success from long range Thursday night. Three three-pointers by the junior in an 83-second span midway in the second half sparked Western New Mexico to a 77-73 victory over Chadron State in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's basketball game in Chadron. The Mustangs have now won two in a row and are 4-10 on the season and 2-4 in conference play.
Davis' threes helped the Mustangs build a 13-point lead, 69-56, but the game wasn't over yet. The Eagles came within two with just :49 left on the clock. Like all close games, it came down to free throws. WNMU's Ashley Vigil (Albuquerque, NM/Sandia High School) (Albuquerque, NM) and Dana Alexander (Fort Worth, TX/Arlington Heights High School) (Fort Worth, TX) each made a pair of free throws to secure the victory.
Western New Mexico shot 43.8 percent from the field, including six of 12 from three point range, and was nearly perfect from the charity stripe in the second half (8-9).
Davis led the Mustangs with 19 points. Freshman Shatwa Morris (Las Cruces, NM/Mayfield High School) (Las Cruces, NM), added 16 points and collected eight rebounds, seven of them offensive. Alexander finished with 14 points and ten rebounds.
