Adams State College Sweeps RMAC Cross Country Championships

DURANGO, CO - Adams State College won both the men's and women's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference cross country championships, which were held Saturday morning at Hillcrest Golf Course in Durango, CO.

The Adams State women's team was paced by senior Brittany Somers who beat out 99 other runners for the 2007 RMAC Women's Runner of the Year honor. Somers finished the 6K race in 22:33.50. Teammate Ashley Quintana ran to a sixth place finish (23:19.71) and was the first freshman to finish the race and be named the 2007 RMAC Women's Freshman Runner of the Year. The team title is a record sixth straight title for the Grizzlies and 21st title since 1981. The Grizzlies posted a team score of 22 points.

The Grizzlies men's team finished with 33 points to win their fourth RMAC title in five years and 30th overall. Sophomore Aaron Braun crossed the finish line first in the 8K race to earn the 2007 RMAC Men's Runner of the Year award. Braun finished first out of 87 runners with a time of 25:16.64. Western State's Tyler Pennel completed the race in seventh place with a time of 25:55.31 to be named the 2007 RMAC Men's Freshman Runner of the Year.

Damon Martin, head coach of both Adams State's programs, was named the RMAC Cross Country Coach of the Year for the 53rd time in his career.
