Lady 'Stangs Notch First Win of Season, Defeat Chadron State in RMAC Action

The WNMU (1-4, 1-1) women's basketball team notched their first win of the season as they defeated the visiting RMAC contenders of Chadron State (0-5, 0-1) by a score of 68 to 59. It was a fast -paced game, and both benches saw action. The Lady 'Stangs defense proved to be a key to the win, forcing 28 turnovers. Another factor that aided in the "W" was Western's shooting percentage from the free throw line, 22-26 (84.6%).

Leading the visiting Eagles was Sunni Busch with a game high of 23 points. Others scoring for CSC were Tera Schmid 6, Natalyn Cumings 3, Samantha Arkulari 5, Krisha Sibrel 5, Rae Lyons 3, Sarah Daniels 4, Chelsea DeHaven 6, and Samantha Duncan 4.

Guiding the Lady 'Stangs to victory was junior Crystal Smith, who demonstrated her consistency with 16 points. Whitney Lewis added 10 and Tannesia Manley sank 12 points.

Manley finished with a double-double tallying 10 boards, along with 2 assists. Whitney Card and Kristyn Valenzuela stepped up the intensity grabbing 4 steals a piece.

Western expects to build off the win as they continue to battle in the RMAC. They take their quest on the road to face the Colorado School of Mines on December 16.
