Grand Canyon Men's Basketball Team Rains 3s Rein In Mustangs, 101-93

Silver City, NM – Western New Mexico University's men's basketball remained winless Thursday night as visiting Grand Canyon (8-1) defeated WNMU 101-93 in a game that saw lots of made shots -- particularly from the 3-point line. WNMU fell to 0-8 on the season.

Canyon came out hot from the outset, scorching the Mustangs with 9-of-11 3-pointers in the first half, before adding 5-of-7 in the second. The Antelopes notched an amazing 77.8 percent from beyond the arc, but strangely slipped when shooting 2-pointers, falling to 58% total for the game. The Mustangs went a respectable 51 percent from the field and almost 44 percent from three-point land.

The Antelopes out-rebounded WNMU 35-26 and the Mustangs committed three more turnovers (14-11).

WNMU got five players in double figures for the first time of the season in the game with Matt Enriquez (El Paso, TX) leading the way with 21 points. Mike Sells (Sedona, AZ) tallied 17 on the night, while Mike Richards added 14 and the duo of Kris Taylor and Adam Grimes chipped in 10 points each.

Grand Canyon was paced by Rich Davis' 27-point effort and Noe Alonzo scored 25.

The Mustangs will get almost a month off, before returning to the court on January 4 at Montana State-Billings to kick off their Heartland Conference campaign.
