Jessica Carey helped lead the Lady Mustangs back to the RMAC Tournament in 2015 during her first season. She begins her second season as assistant softball coach for the 2016 campaign. She arrived in Silver City after being a student assistant coach on the staff at Western Washington University.
"Being able to bring someone in with the caliber and experience like Jessica will be a vital asset to our program," Corliss said. "She was a great player at Western Washington and had the chance this past year to be an assistant coach. We look forward to her insight and knowledge of the game."
Carey assisted in guiding the Vikings to a 30-14 season in 2014 that included three wins over Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opponents at the Desert Stinger (Black Hills State, Colorado Mines, Adams State).
During her senior campaign, she was a First-Team Great Northwest Athletic Conference all-star and team co-captain for Vikings as she compiled a .327 batting average, leading the team in hits (56), runs batted in (25) and doubles (9). She set the school record with home runs in three consecutive games, was a Second-Team GNAC all-star in 2010, a three-year letter winner after transferring from Ohio Dominican University. Carey was named to the First-Team Class 4A All-State, Everett Herald All-Area and Western Conference all-star as a senior at Everett High School.
Carey was part of the 2011 nationally-ranked team that was ranked as high as sixth in the nation going 36-16 and advancing to regionals. In addition, she has been the head coach of the Amateur Softball Association Washington Lake Breeze since 2012.
