Newell helped start the turnaround for the WNMU women’s tennis program beginning with her first season in 2011-2012 when they Lady Mustangs upset Nebraska-Kearney in the RMAC Tournament for their first ever tournament title. That year she burst onto the scene leading the team in singles wins with 16 and she also added 10 doubles wins. She collected First-Team All-RMAC accolades for her performance. Her sophomore year was an even better season for the team as they won both the RMAC regular season and tournament titles. The regular season crown was the first in program history. She put together a solid 12-win season in singles, good for second on the team and also added a team-best 14 doubles wins with Ganna Tiurina. After coming back from an injury for the 2014-2015 season, she added her third All-RMAC First-Team accolade in singles with a 6-13 mark. In addition to her awards playing on the court, she earned All-RMAC Academic First-Team accolades twice and was named to the honor roll every year she was eligible. She finishes her career with 38 singles wins and 39 doubles victories.
