For the second time this season, Western New Mexico University sophomore men’s tennis player Rodrigo Almeida has been named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Player of the Week as announced by the conference office Wednesday.
Almeida dominated against Division One talent this past weekend, winning all of his singles matches, along with a doubles victory. He won all of his matches in straight sets, as he opened up playing No. 2, before winning his final two of the weekend at the top flight position. His doubles win came against Idaho State, as also collected wins over Weber State and Seattle University.
He also received the award back on Mar. 14 and this marks the third award for the men’s team, with Jean Benoit Belin winning the award back on Feb. 15.
Almeida, ranked 15th in the region as a singles player, is 12-2 over in singles matches, going 2-0 at No. 1, 2-1 at No. 2, 4-0 at No. 3, and 4-1 at No. 4. He is also 5-9 in doubles matches, going 2-1 with Matthieu Covizzi and 3-8 with Belin.
