Chad Carter was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Athlete of the Month as announced by the conference office Monday. The league's 14 sports information directors nominate student-athletes from their institution which are then selected by the RMAC office. A junior forward from Tucson, Ariz., Carter led the Mustangs to five victories in January. He posted double-digits in scoring in every game, averaging 17.6, with a high if 21 twice, which occurred in the final two games of the month in wins over UC-Colorado Springs and CSU-Pueblo. Carter displayed his versatility from the inside and outside, shooting 53.2 (41-of-77) from the field, including a 12-of-29 (41.4) effort from downtown and was a solid 29-of-39 (74.4) from the stripe. He tallied a high of eight field goals made against UCCS in which he missed just four shots in the game and had a high of four three-pointers against Adams State to start the month. He averaged 7.3 rebounds, with a high of nine coming twice during the month. Of his 51 rebounds, 14 came on the offensive glass. He dished out 11 assists and came away with 11 steals. He was solid in blocking shots as he turned away 19 shots, including a five block effort against UCCS. In the month of January, Carter tied for the league high in blocked shots per game (2.7) and he ranked fifth in defensive rebounds (5.3).
