Junior forward Chad Carter was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the week as announced by the conference office Monday.
Carter made an impact both offensively and defensively in the Mustangs’ two victories this week against UCCS and CSU-Pueblo. In the first game against UCCS, Carter tallied a season-high five blocks, along with a strong effort on the offensive end with 21 points, going 8-for-12 from the field, while also chipping in six rebounds (four defensively) and three steals in 36 minutes.
Against CSU-Pueblo he posted 14 of his 21 points in the second half to help WNMU pull away from a late Thunderwolves’ rally. He scored five straight points to help boost the lead into double-digits which included a thunderous dunk which he completed while getting fouled.
He again shot well from the field, making 7-of-12, along with nine rebounds, five defensive, three blocks and two steals. For the week, he shot over 62 percent (15-24), including a 3-for-7 effort from three-point land, 15 rebounds, nine defensive, eight blocks and five steals in averaging 34 minutes a game. He is tied for the conference lead in blocks per game at two per contest.
