Alex Hoekstra

Alex Hoekstra comes to Western New Mexico University after a successful career as a player at Mount Olive. Alex was the team’s setter and holds the school record in assists. He enters his third season at WNMU in 2013 assisting in all areas of the volleyball program.

In 2009, Alex was ranked 16th in Division 1 stats for assists (12.34). In 2010, he finished third in the nation in assists (13.48) and the teams hitting percentage was (.338), good for second in the nation. Mount Olive had a winning record every year Hoekstra was there. In the 2010 season, he was named the team’s MVP and recorded a 17-4 record winning their first-ever Conference Carolina Championship.
Coach Hoekstra has coached boys youth volleyball for Cincinnati Attack Volleyball Club from 2006 – 2011. He also was an assistant coach for the Ohio Valley Region High Performance team that finished second in 2010 and 2011 winning silver medals at the High Performance National Championships.
Alex graduated from Mount Olive College with a BS in Business Administration and continues his education at Western by studying for his Masters in Kinesiology.
