Macario Campos

Coach Macario Campos recently completed his 19th season back as either an assistant or head coach with WNMU following the 2023 Cross Country Campaign. Coach Campos has been synonymous with Silver City and WNMU having been around the program for two decades.Coach Campos has been synonymous with Silver City and WNMU having been around the program for over a two decades.

Coach Campos has helped resurrect track and field at WNMU, as the 2023 spring season was the first year both men's and women's teams competed in the Lone Star Conference on a full-time basis. All previous years, WNMU competed in track and field unattached and was unable to participate in the LSC.

Coach Campos returned to WNMU in 2004 to help lead the cross country team with a wealth of experience and a table full of impressive accomplishments, both as a runner and as a coach.

A year later, he helped guide the cross country teams to tremendous success as both the men and women teams won the Heartland Conference Championships in 2005. 

He coached former Mustang runner Daniel Beam, who placed 9th at the UASTF Junior Cross Country Nationals located in San Diego, CA.

Coach Campos served as an assistant for his first two years and moved up to the top spot after a change in staff.

Having coached distance running since 1995, Coach Campos has worked with many distance runners and his charges have brought his technique to a variety of venues with great success, including professional distance runners based out of Mexico from 1995-2001.

Campos' athletes have campaigned in the World Cross Country Championships in Cape Town, South Africa, World Track and Field Championship in Seville, Spain.

Coach Campos is a 1996 graduate of WNMU and was a member the cross country team in 1994.
