Silver City, NM- The Western New Mexico Women's Basketball team ended their season on February 23
rd, at home against Eastern New Mexico University. Mustangs ended their season with an overall record of 10-16 and 8-14 in conference play.

"We got a group that established the culture we want. We won eight conference games, for me that's a big deal that's the most wins I've had since I've been here. The last time we had 10 wins was about five to six years ago," stated head coach
Josh Pace.

Mustangs finished the season scoring 1508 points averaging 58 points per game. Shooting 563-of-1473 (38.2%) from the field, from behind the arch Mustangs would be at 27.3%. WNMU would grab 997 rebounds averaging 38 per game, compared to their opponents only having 904. Mustangs would also end with 306 assists and 167 steals. WNMU would protect the basket by bringing in 63 blocks.

Mustangs had a season high of 116 points, 62 rebounds and 25 assists against SAGU American Indian (11/21). WNMU had a season high of seven blocks February 16
th against Ark.-Fort Smith.

The Mustangs would be tough competition this 22-23 year beating top LSC opponents. On February 11
th WNMU beat West Texas A&M 59-52, for the second time in school history. Mustangs also secure two wins at the buzzer against Texas A&M International (1/21) and Cameron University (2/2).
Brooke Rodgers (Phoenix, Arizona/Cactus Shadows High School) scoring both those baskets at the buzzer. The Mustangs would beat New Mexico rival Eastern New Mexico University both away and at home for the first time since 2018.

Sydney Wright (Houston, Texas/Henley High School) would make LSC Honorable Mention. Wright would start in all 26 games playing 787 minutes. Wright would finish the season totaling 289 points, averaging 11 points per game. Shooting 31.3% from the field, 29.6% from the three-point line, and 80.7% from the free-throw line. Also bringing in a total of 62 rebounds, 60 assists, and 13 steals.

The team will be losing
Cassandra Vickery (Tularosa, NM/Tularosa HS). Vickery ending the season scoring 51 points, grabbing 34 rebounds, adding 21 assists, 23 steals, and two blocks.

"Very successful season in terms of establishing culture and moving it forward. Do we want to win more games, absolutely. We have a talented group coming back. Very happy with how the season ended. I think the culture and the team are headed in the right direction and we need to keep moving forward" Concluded Coach Pace.
