Women's Basketball Announces 2023-24 Schedule

SILVER CITY, N.M. – The Western New Mexico University women's head basketball coach Josh Pace has officially released the teams schedule for the 2023-24 season.
 
Pace is rejoined by assistant Richie Willis and new assistant coach Tyra Brown.
 
"Very excited to have Coach Richie Willis and Coach Tyra Brown here as they have been doing a good job coaching our student-athletes," said Josh Pace. 
 
The Mustangs will take part in 30 contests, including three exhibition games with Division I opponents. Of the 27 games remaining, 22 will be Lone Star Conference (LSC) matchups and the remaining five will be against non-conference opponents. 
 
"As the start of the season approaches, we are very excited to get on the court and play against another team (UTEP)," said Pace. "It will be a challenging test for us. A tough game that will help prepare us for the start of the season."  
 
The season begins on November 6th, as the Mustangs travel to El Paso, to take on Division 1 opponent UTEP for an exhibition game. WNMU will also play D1 opponents New Mexico State (Dec. 12th) and The University of New Mexico (Dec. 17th) to round out their exhibition games.
 
The regular season will tip off with the Conference Crossover in Portales, N.M. between schools from the LSC and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC). WNMU kicks off the crossover with two matchups against New Mexico Highlands (Nov. 10th) and Fort Lewis College (Nov. 11th).
 
Following the crossover is a non-conference road matchup against Sul Ross State (Nov. 15th).
 
WNMU then returns for a three-game home stand with a non-conference matchup against Arizona Christian (Nov. 18th). Following ACU the Mustangs begin LSC play with St. Mary's (Nov. 30th) and St. Edward's (Dec. 2nd).
 
"We also have our conference challenge coming up and obviously the Lone Star conference is very challenging," said Pace.  
 
Next, the Mustangs hit the road for matchups with Texas Woman's (Dec. 7th and UT Tyler (Dec. 9th).
 
Ending the year, the Mustangs welcome Northern New Mexico College (Dec. 28th) to Drag's Court.
 
Kicking off 2024 the Mustangs pack their bags for Angelo State (Jan 4th) and UTPB (Jan 6th).
 
The Mustangs return to Drag's Court for a four-game home stretch with matchups against Midwestern State (Jan. 11th), Cameron (Jan. 13th), West Texas A&M (Jan 18th) and Lubbock Christian (Jan 20th).
 
A two-game road trip ensues to the southeast part of Texas with games against Texas A&M - Kingsville (Jan 25th) and Texas A&M International (Jan 27th).
 
WNMU comes home for the start of February with two matchups, UTPB (Feb 1st) and Angelo State (Feb 3rd).
 
Next on the schedule is a four-game road trip, starting off with Cameron (Feb 8th), Midwestern State (Feb 10th), Lubbock Christian (Feb. 15th) and West Texas A&M (Feb 17th).
 
The Mustangs end February with home contests against Arkansas Fort Smith (Feb. 22nd) and Oklahoma Christian (Feb 24th).
 
The final two regular season matchup come against the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds (ENMU). First the Mustangs head to, Portales, N.M. (Feb 29th) and finish off their season against ENMU at home, March 2nd.
 
"Our culture is in the right place, and we look forward to competing at a very high level this year," said Pace.
 
The LSC Tournament begins on March 8th.
 
Home and LSC games will all be stream on the LSC Digital Network, RMAC games on the RMAC Digital Network, and D-1 games will be on ESPN+.
