COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference announced their 2011 volleyball academic teams Tuesday.
Juniors
Heather Rux (Cottonwood, AZ/Mingus Union High School),
Jordan Johnston (Boise, ID/Centennial High School) and
Ziona Verhulsdonk (Kailua, HI/Hawaii Preparatory Academy) were all named to the list for the Mustangs.
Rux was named to the first-team as an outside hitter. The Cottonwood, Ariz., native holds a 3.95 cumulative GPA and is majoring in math. She has played in 77 sets this season, compiling 157 kills, 40 digs and 42 total blocks.
Johnston and Verhulsdonk both landed on the honor roll squad.
Johnston has played in 79 sets and has posted 143 kills, along with 55 digs and 76 blocks. The Boise, Idaho native holds a 3.42 GPA and is majoring in medical technology.
Verhulsdonk has also played in 79 sets, 68 digs and 42 total blocks. The Kailua, Hawaii native holds a 3.51 GPA and is majoring in accounting.
To qualify for Academic All-RMAC, student-athletes must have a grade point average of 3.30 or better, be a starter or reserve, and completed two consecutive semesters or three quarters at their current institution. Their cumulative G.P.A. is what they had earned prior to volleyball season beginning. RMAC Sports Information Directors at schools that sponsor the sport of volleyball selected first and second teams. A setter and defensive specialist were required on each ballot.
