Men’s Basketball Goes 0-3 In Hawaii

Sophomore Stefan Mirabal
The Mustangs led by as many as 12 versus Hawaii Pacific University Sunday afternoon, but WNMU had a tough time scoring in the second half. Hawaii Pacific outscored the Mustangs, 56-31, in the final 20 minutes to run away with the win, 97-77. WNMU finished the week-long trip in Hawaii with a 0-3 record.

WNMU went on a 13-0 run over a three-minute time period that ended at 5:36 in the first half. Stefan Mirabal (Albuquerque, NM, Sandia High School) and TJ Riley (Tyler, TX, Chapel Hill High School, Lamar University) each scored 10 points before walking in the locker room with a 46-41 advantage at the half.

The Mustangs started the second half slow…very slow. They scored only two points in the first seven minutes, allowing the Sea Warriors to take a whopping 20-point lead. The lead hovered around the 20-point mark because of a dismal shooting percentage (30.0) by WNMU.

Mirabal finished with 17 points, six assists, and eight rebounds. Senior Justin Williams (Phoenix, AZ, Paradise Valley High School, Phoenix College) also posted 17 points but did his normal assist numbers. He had only one assist in the loss.

Riley produced 12 points followed by Chad Carter (Tucson, AZ, Ironwood Ridge High School) with 10.
