Things looked bleak for the Mustangs on Saturday versus Hawaii Pacific University, WNMU's final game on the islands, but WNMU had a huge second half push to take the win, 84-78. The victory balanced out the purple and gold record to 3-3 on the season.

The Sea Warriors built a huge 41-20 lead with five minutes remaining in the first half as Jason Curtis recorded 15 points on 6-for-8 shooting and was a perfect 3-for-3 from downtown. HPU led at intermission, 48-32.

Things completely flipped around as WNMU guard Devin Stewart (Tucson, AZ/Santa Rita High School) (Tucson, AZ) dropped 16 of his 23 points in the final 20 minutes. Steve Berrelleza (Phoenix, AZ/Mountain Pointe High School) (Phoenix, AZ) also shined, draining six three pointers in the second half alone. It took only seven minutes to create this turn-around.

Things were tied at 57 with 11:47 left to play after consecutive three pointers by Berrelleza and Andy Sohlich (Battle Creek, MI/St. Phillip Catholic Central High School) (Battle Creek, MI).

The two teams traded baskets down the stretch. Barrelleza gave WNMU a 69-67 lead on a three ball, but HPU answered back, nailing a three pointer of their own.

Hot three-point shooting by the Mustangs sealed the victory in the closing minutes. Another Berrelleza three-pointer gave WNMU a 78-72 lead with 1:58 to play. HPU never was closer than three points the rest of the way.

Berrelleza finished with his first double-double of the season with 11 rebounds and 22 points. Along with his game-high 23 points, Stewart also posted 13 assists and five rebounds. JJ Galberth (El Paso, TX/Parkland High School) (El Paso, TX) added 18 points in just 25 minutes of play.

The Mustangs shot 45 percent from three-point land and a jaw-dropping 61.5 percent in the second half.
