Risdon Wins in Canada, Molina Second in Albuquerque

Edmonton, AB -- Former Mustang golfer Dustin Risdon won his first Canadian Tour event Sunday as the 25-year-old Strathmore, Alberta native posted rounds of 70-63-65-67 (-19) to win the Telus Edmonton Open. Meanwhile in Albuquerque, Marcus Molina (Albuquerque, NM/St. Pius X High School) finished the weekend with two rounds of 69 to finish as the runner-up in the Albuquerque Amateur Championship for the second straight year.

Risdon, who attended WNMU in 2001-02 transfered to Western from Kent State University, but had to use a redshirt year after the move. He as campaigned for the past four seasons on the Canadian Tour and bases himself in Eunice, NM where he lives with his girffriend Janette Carrillo, who was an All-American golfer for the Stangs.

Molina, Western's star senior-to-be posted an incredible 64 in Friday's opening round of the Albquerque Amateur, but NMSU's recent grad Freddy Esparza came back to take the title after recording 63 on Saturday. Molina's 12-under par total was two shots shy of Esparza, but in front of many UNM players including Steve Saunders, who won the event last year.

Mike Wog, a 2005 WNMU grad, begins round one of the USGA Public Links Championship Monday in Chicago. The top 64 of the 154 qualifiers will advance to the matchplay portion of the tournament on Wednesday.
