Phoenix, AZ -- Cal Poly Pomona's DeJa Evans hit a 3-point buzzer-beater to send the WNMU-CPP women's basketball game into overtime and the Lady Broncos rode that momentum to a 93-85 win over WNMU in the opening round of the Cactus Classic in Phoenix.
WNMU (0-2) took the lead 82-79 on Antonia Caffey's two free-throws with 12 seconds left in regulation before Evan's heroic shot at the buzzer. The Mustangs then went 1-of-7 in the overtime and had three turnovers.
The Lady Stangs took a nine-point lead into the intermission but CPP owned the boards on the night and WNMU gradually lost that lead throughout the second half.
WNMU will face CSU-Bakersfield Saturday at 2pm.
