The Lady Mustang Volleyball team swept the visiting St. Edward's University Rams, 30-21, 30-21, 30-20, Saturday afternoon at home. The loss sends St. Edward's home with a 5-14, 2-2 record; while the Mustangs enjoy the view from the top of the conference with a 15-4, 4-1 record.
In sending a message to the Heartland Cconference, the Lady 'Stangs out hit and out dug the defending champs (.333 to .186 and 51 to 31 digs).
Stephanie Higgins (Biggsville, IL/) needed a doctor because she was sick, posting 20 kills many with dominant force. Jennifer Snowbarger (Oskaloosa, IA/Oskaloosa High School) followed closely tallying 14 kills and a hitting percentage of .429. Newcomers Janiel McNeill (Thatcher, AZ/) and Jillian Caves (Moline, IL/Moline High School) each had six kills.
Defensivley for WNMU, Jessica Lindgren (Albuquerque, NM/Cibola High School) had a game high with 11 digs, followed closely by junior Melanie Tang (Honolulu, HI/Mary Knoll High School) with 9 and fellow freshman Denise Lunt (Pima, AZ/) with 8.
The SEU Rams were led offensively by Lindsey Douglas with 9 kills and an impressive hitting percentage of .600. Teal Clark helped damper the Mustang momentum by posting 6 digs. Also defensively for St. Edward's was Kristen Lozano who had 7 block assists out of the 7.5 total team blocks.
The 'Stangs will be back in action in Phoenix, AZ taking on Bentley College, Cal State-Dominguez Hills, and Grand Canyon starting on October 7 at 4:00 PM.
