Mustangs Say Mahalo to Hawaii; Say Aloha to Second Place

Waikoloa, HI –  Finishing their  third and final round of the Dennis Rose Invitational at the beautiful Waikoloa Beach Golf Course, the Western New Mexico University Men's Golf team finishes in second place.

Four mighty Mustangs finished in the top-25, led by Joey Geary (Phoenix, AZ/Sunnyslope HS) who finished T-7th.  Geary finished (E) on the invitational, shooting 67-70-73. Aaron Perales (Deming, NM/Deming HS) had a great week finish (+6) and placed T-13th, carding 72-70-74.

Starting the invitational not so hot, Adam Samnegard finished exceptionally well. Samnegard finished T-18th and (+7), carding 78-74-65. Adam Niles (Kamloops, BC/Valley View Secondary) was a stroke behind placing T-18th, bouncing back from a tough round two. Niles was 70-76-72.

Arnav Arkanath (Milton Keyes, GB/Sir Henry Floyd HS) was stellar his first two rounds with a pair of 71's but didn't have his best play in round three. Arkanath finished T-32nd, being (+12). Playing as an individual all week, Roman Romero (Albuquerque, NM/Manzano HS) stayed consistent, carding 74-75-77 and placed T-44th.

WNMU was third in many categories including par 3's, where the Mustangs averaged 3.16 and par 4's, averaging 4.15. The Mustangs were in second for total pars with 174. Geary who was in third for total pars had 40 pars and Perales had 39.

Colorado Christian's Cam Sandland led the field finishing (-7), and carding 72-61-70 for the invitational. CSU San Bernardino's Brian Nielsen finished in second being (-4), going 66-68-72. Two others were tied in third being (-3).  

After the second consecutive day, Colorado Christian closes out the Dennis Rose Invitational in first place, being (-1). WNMU finishes in second at (+9) and finishing in third is CSU San Bernardino being (+17).

The Mustangs won't be back in action until February 2022 with the Annual RJGA 'Cactus Thaw!' held at the Painted Dunes Golf Course in El Paso, TX.
